Thin, solvent-based and low-odor silo coating based on bitumen.
The bitumen silo coating offers comprehensive protection for concrete, masonry, wood, metals and against water penetration, helping to prevent damage and corrosion.
Its resistance to acids and high temperatures that occur during ensiling makes it ideal for use in various agricultural and industrial environments. After drying, the coating is odorless and tasteless, making it particularly suitable for green fodder containers, potato acidification pits, sauerkraut and drinking water containers as well as slurry silos.
Additionally, the bitumen silo varnish offers excellent protection against aggressive wastewater and numerous chemical substances such as alkalis, organic acids and salts. In industrial silos, it reliably protects against corrosion. For better adhesion on concrete, masonry or plaster, the sandroplast Silo Primer should be used to ensure deep anchoring and excellent adhesion.
The sandroplast bitumen silo varnish is a high-quality, ready-to-use protective coating specifically developed for use in silos and on other industrial surfaces. Its drying time varies depending on weather and substrate conditions. Thanks to its excellent adhesion on various substrates, the coating ensures a reliable and permanent connection, guaranteeing a robust and resistant coating.
The bitumen silo coating can be applied using different application methods, enabling flexible and easy application. The low-odor property of the bitumen silo coating facilitates processing, especially in enclosed or poorly ventilated spaces, and provides a more pleasant working environment.
The coating is based on a modified hard bitumen known for its exceptional durability and protective effect, forming a robust, long-lasting layer that effectively protects the underlying materials from external influences.
The bitumen silo coating is resistant to diluted alkalis and acids, making it ideal for use in environments where chemical resistance is required. This property ensures long-term protection of the treated surfaces. The coating is free from harmful substances such as phenol and PCB, making it safe to use for both the user and the environment.
The softening point of the bitumen used is between 80 and 100 °C, measured according to the ring-and-ball method. This ensures that the coating remains stable even at higher temperatures and does not lose its protective effect. The bitumen silo coating is both frost and UV resistant and, after curing, resistant to weather influences such as rain.
To achieve even greater resistance, there is the SANDROPLAST SILO COATING SYSTEM. This offers an innovative solution to increase drying time, heat resistance and resistance to acids and other influences. The sandroplast Silo Bitumen Hardener is an excellent complement to the silo coating and, in combination with the two-component coating, forms an extremely durable and long-lasting surface with faster drying. After a curing time of just 6 to 12 hours, the coating is firm, and the treated silo can be filled after 3 to 4 days.
The substrate must be dry, clean, load-bearing and grease-free, and must not have any loose components or defective concrete and plaster areas. Cracks and holes must be repaired with suitable material.
A finely textured substrate is a prerequisite for the subsequent coating. Smooth, dense concrete surfaces should be roughened, either by sandblasting or by treating with diluted hydrochloric acid, followed by thorough washing. Plastered wall surfaces must not be smoothed but must be rubbed down to ensure a finely textured substrate. When coating iron parts and sheet metal, all rust residues must be removed.
For the application of the SANDROPLAST SILO COATING SYSTEM, a sandroplast Silo Bitumen Primer should also be applied. This is followed by three coats of sandroplast bitumen silo coating mixed with the sandroplast bitumen hardener.
The silo coating can be applied by brushing, spraying or rolling. The ready-to-use sandroplast bitumen silo coating is ideally applied from bottom to top.
For new silos, a sandroplast Silo Primer should first be applied, followed by three coats of sandroplast silo coating.
Silos that have already been coated should be cleaned down to the pores. For annual recoating, one follow-up coat is usually sufficient. It is recommended that each coat is allowed to dry thoroughly for at least 24 hours. You should wait at least 10 to 14 days before filling the silo. Freshly applied coating can be damaged or washed off in heavy rain.
The optimal processing temperature is between +5 and +25 °C. Excessive heat and strong sunlight can lead to blistering.
If there is insufficient ventilation in enclosed spaces or containers, respiratory protection must be worn. Note significantly longer drying times (forced ventilation required!). Observe DIN standards and relevant regulations, especially the requirements and safety measures of the BG-Bau (German construction industry association) regarding the handling of solvent-based coatings.
Depending on the absorbency of the substrate, consumption is approx. 0.2 to 0.3 l/m² and the recommended layer thickness is 1 mm.
